Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive Seoul

Arrive in Seoul, where you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Your journey begins in this dynamic city where modern energy meets deep-rooted tradition.

This evening, meet your fellow travellers and trip leader before heading out on a short orientation walk through the lively Gongdeok entertainment district. Sit down together for a welcome dinner featuring Korean hotpot, a comforting and flavourful dish filled with vegetables, meat, and noodles. After dinner, you may wish to stroll along the tranquil Cheonggyecheon Stream or explore one of Seoul’s vibrant night markets. (D)

Day 2

Seoul

Begin the day at Gyeongbokgung Palace, the grand royal residence of the Joseon Dynasty, where centuries of history are brought to life through its architecture and setting. Continue to Bukchon Hanok Village, home to beautifully preserved traditional houses that offer a glimpse into Seoul’s past.

Later, enjoy a truly immersive culinary experience as you visit the home of a local food expert. Learn about the rich history of Korean cuisine before taking part in preparing your own lunch, sampling regional dishes and flavours from across the country.

In the afternoon, there is an opportunity to meet with a North Korean defector and hear a deeply personal story of resilience and change. The evening is free to explore at your own pace, whether that means wandering through the lively streets of Myeongdong or sampling some of Seoul’s renowned street food. (B, L)

*Special Note: Meetings with defectors are notoriously difficult to arrange. This meeting may take place on a different day or location to guarantee the best possible experience. The meeting will cover a number of sensitive topics including torture, abuse and human trafficking. You can very easily opt out of this activity should you wish.

Day 3

Seoul - Jeonju

This morning offers a powerful and thought-provoking visit to the Demilitarised Zone, where you’ll gain insight into the history and ongoing reality of the Korean Peninsula’s division. Highlights include the Third Tunnel of Aggression and Imjingak Peace Park.

After some free time for lunch, continue by private transfer to Jeonju, a picturesque city known for its deep culinary roots. This evening, enjoy dinner at a traditional restaurant known for its bibimbap, widely considered one of the best representations of this iconic and beloved Korean dish. (B, D)

Day 4

Jeonju

For breakfast this morning, you’ll enjoy a local delicacy – Jeonju beansprout rice soup. You will then travel to Damyang for a scenic walk through its peaceful bamboo forest, where towering green stalks create a calm and almost otherworldly atmosphere. While here, you may wish to sample local specialties such as bamboo ice cream.

Enjoy lunch featuring tteok galbi, a regional favourite of marinated and chargrilled beef, before returning to Jeonju. Spend the afternoon exploring the historic hanok village, where traditional architecture and artistic culture come together. Visit a local brassware workshop to learn about this intricate craft directly from the artisan.

The evening is free to relax or continue exploring Jeonju at your own pace. (B, L)

Day 5

Jeonju - Hapcheon

Travel to Gayasan National Park and arrive at Haeinsa Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Korea’s most significant Buddhist temples.

Here, you’ll take part in a unique temple stay experience, beginning with tea alongside a monk while learning about daily life and spiritual practice within the temple. Follow the rhythm of temple life with a guided orientation, a simple and meaningful group dinner, and an evening meditation, offering a rare opportunity for reflection in a serene setting. (B, D)

Day 6

Hapcheon - Mokpo

Depart the temple and journey south toward the coastal city of Mokpo, passing through the scenic landscapes of South Korea’s southern regions.

Along the way, visit a local home in the Shinan archipelago for a glimpse into daily life in this lesser-visited part of the country. Upon arrival in Mokpo, ride a cable car up Mount Yudal for sweeping views over the coastline and surrounding islands.

Later, explore Manho Village, known for its historic architecture, charming streets, and bustling fish market. The evening is free to enjoy Mokpo’s lively atmosphere, waterfront promenade, and local dining scene. (B, L)

Day 7

Mokpo - Jeju Island

Travel to Mokpo Harbour and board a ferry to Jeju Island, South Korea’s beloved island escape known for its natural beauty and volcanic landscapes.

After arrival, explore the island’s eastern coast, beginning with a visit to a local orange farm for a refreshing introduction to Jeju’s citrus culture. Continue to Seongsan Ilchulbong, also known as Sunrise Peak, a dramatic volcanic formation rising from the sea and offering sweeping panoramic views.

Visit a traditional Jeju folk village before returning to your hotel. The evening is free to enjoy at your leisure. (B)

Day 8

Jeju Island

Today, continue exploring Jeju’s striking landscapes as you head to the island’s western side. Visit a green tea plantation, where rolling fields create a peaceful and picturesque setting.

Take in the dramatic presence of Sanbangsan Mountain, a massive lava dome often surrounded by mist, before walking a section of the Olleh Trail along Jeju’s rugged coastline, where layered rock formations create a truly unique landscape.

Later, meet one of Jeju’s famed Haenyeo, the island’s legendary female free divers, and learn about this remarkable tradition that continues to this day. This evening, gather for a farewell dinner featuring Jeju’s renowned black pork BBQ, a perfect way to celebrate your journey together. (B, D)

Day 9

Depart Jeju Island

Enjoy a final breakfast this morning, taking in your last moments on Jeju Island. With no scheduled activities today, you are free to depart at your leisure, reflecting on the experiences, connections, and memories made throughout your journey in South Korea. (B)
