Set in the rolling green hills of South Devon, Fowlescombe Estate is a rare and quietly beautiful place, a working estate restored with extraordinary care, offering a kind of pared-back luxury that immediately invites you to tuck in, relax and enjoy. For six days, this remarkable property will be ours alone.
We’ll paint in a beautifully restored greenhouse studio, working with a lighter footprint for this retreat, table easels, smaller canvases, and our journals—heading outside to paint whenever the land invites us. Throughout the week, we’ll be exquisitely nourished by Chef Elly Wentworth, finalist on MasterChef: The Professionals. Elly will be cooking with us, teaching us, and feeding us generously, daily breakfasts and lunches, afternoon tea and cake, and elegant four-course dinners featuring seasonal, locally inspired menus. One evening will be spent gathered outdoors for an interactive, chef-led barbecue on the farmhouse terrace.
Beyond the studio and kitchen, the retreat offers space to explore and exhale. There will be time at the beach at Mothecombe, lunch by the sea, a wild swim with a private sauna to warm up after. We’ll venture onto Dartmoor for a guided walk with a local foraging expert, discovering its vast moors, ancient stories, and wild beauty. We’ll visit a beloved local pub, enjoy a little gentle yoga, and farm walks. Cozy, quiet moments, and thoughtful care throughout the week make this a deeply restorative and creatively rich experience.
Expect exceptional rooms, long tables, shared laughter, and a level of attention that makes this retreat joyous, elevated, intimate and unforgettable. I’m beyond excited for this one! As featured in Condé Nast Traveller, The Times, and National Geographic Traveller’s ’30 Best Hotels in the World’.
