Arrive Shanghai, China
Ni Hao and welcome to China! Upon arrival in Shanghai, you’ll be transferred to your hotel and have time to settle in before meeting your group and guide this evening. Begin your journey with a welcome dinner at a local restaurant, where you’ll sample regional Shanghai specialties including fried dumplings, braised pork, and crystal shrimp while getting your first taste of the city’s vibrant culinary scene. Shanghai
Discover the energy and contrasts of Shanghai on a guided walking tour through the city’s historic and modern neighbourhoods. Explore traditional nongtang residential lanes, stroll along tree-lined Wukang Road in the former French Concession, and visit bustling local markets. Later, head to the iconic Bund for sweeping views of the Huangpu River, where Shanghai’s historic art deco architecture stands against the futuristic skyline of Pudong. The remainder of the afternoon is yours to explore at leisure. (B)
Huizhou Villages
Travel by high-speed train to the picturesque villages of Huizhou, known for their beautiful Hui-style architecture and tranquil countryside setting. Enjoy a home-cooked lunch with a local family before exploring the ancient village of Tangmo, originally founded during the Tang Dynasty. Visit local artisans specializing in bamboo weaving and traditional stone inscription printing while learning about centuries-old Chinese art forms and calligraphy traditions. Tonight, stay at a beautifully restored heritage property originally built as the mansion of a famous Ming Dynasty poet. (B, L)
Huizhou Villages to Shanghai
Enjoy a relaxed morning to further explore the peaceful surroundings of Huizhou before returning to Shanghai by high-speed train in the afternoon. This evening, join your group for a drink at a rooftop bar overlooking Shanghai’s spectacular skyline and glittering city lights. (B)
Shanghai to Yangshuo
Enjoy a final morning in Shanghai before flying to Guilin and continuing onward to the stunning countryside of Yangshuo. Surrounded by dramatic karst mountains and winding rivers, this region has inspired Chinese artists and poets for generations. Your hotel for the next two nights is tucked away among the peaceful landscapes of Yangshuo, offering a serene retreat surrounded by natural beauty. (B)

Today offers an immersive look into the culture and landscapes of rural China. Visit a local tea plantation to learn about traditional tea production before climbing Xianggong Hill for panoramic views over the Li River and surrounding karst peaks. Explore nearby villages and gain insight into local countryside life before heading into Yangshuo town for a guided walking tour through its lively streets and markets. Yangshuo to Xi’an
After a relaxing morning, fly to Xi’an, one of China’s oldest and most historically significant cities. Once the imperial capital for over 2,000 years, Xi’an blends ancient history with modern energy. This evening, explore the atmospheric Muslim Quarter with your guide, wandering through bustling markets and narrow laneways before enjoying a regional dumpling dinner at a local restaurant. (B, D)
Xi’an & Terracotta Warriors
Journey into the countryside outside Xi’an to visit one of the world’s greatest archaeological discoveries: the Terracotta Warriors. Learn about the fascinating history behind these life-sized clay soldiers, buried for more than 2,000 years before their discovery in 1974. Afterwards, enjoy a home-cooked lunch at a local family restaurant connected to the history of the excavation site. Return to Xi’an for a free afternoon to further explore the city at your own pace. Xi’an to Beijing
Board a high-speed train to Beijing, China’s dynamic capital city. Upon arrival, enjoy a free evening to begin exploring this fascinating city where ancient history and modern life exist side by side. Beijing
Explore some of Beijing’s most iconic landmarks today, beginning with Tiananmen Square and the magnificent Forbidden City, once home to China’s emperors for nearly 500 years. Continue to Jingshan Park for panoramic views overlooking the Forbidden City before enjoying a home-cooked lunch in one of Beijing’s traditional hutong neighbourhoods. Later, stroll through the historic alleyways and visit a local residence to learn about traditional Chinese architecture and building techniques. (B, L)
Great Wall of China
No visit to China would be complete without experiencing the Great Wall. Today, visit the scenic Huanghuacheng section, also known as the Water Great Wall, where parts of the wall dramatically disappear beneath the surrounding lake. Walk along this remarkably preserved section while taking in sweeping views of the surrounding countryside and learning about the wall’s strategic importance throughout Chinese history. Return to Beijing later this afternoon before gathering for a traditional Peking duck farewell dinner with your group. (B, D)
Depart Beijing
